Job Description

Wellhart is seeking a Gastroenterologist for a locum tenens position in Maine. This 60-day assignment begins on June 16, 2025 (or July at the latest) at a multi-specialty clinic. The physician will work Monday through Friday, 8-hour days. Responsibilities include performing various gastrointestinal procedures such as lower GI endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, and upper GI endoscopy with biopsy, foreign body removal, and banding of varices. The ideal candidate should be comfortable with both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, with a preference for those who can perform advanced procedures. This role offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive gastroenterological care in a dynamic clinical setting.

 

Job Details:

Location: Maine

Facility Type: Multi-specialty clinic

Start Date: June 16, 2025 (July at the latest)

LOA: 60 days (with potential for extension)

Provider Type Needed: Gastroenterologist

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-hour days

 

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform lower GI endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy procedures
  • Conduct upper GI endoscopy with biopsy, foreign body removal, and banding of varices
  • Carry out diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterological procedures
  • Manage pre- and post-procedure patient care
  • Provide comprehensive gastroenterological consultations and follow-ups
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Ensure proper documentation using Epic electronic medical record system
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members
  • Adhere to clinic protocols and best practices in gastroenterology
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives as needed

Additional Information:  

  • Must be licensed to practice in Maine
  • Proficiency in Epic electronic medical record system required
  • Ability to perform advanced procedures preferred but not mandatory
  • Strong clinical skills and decision-making abilities essential
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to clinic needs and patient volume
