Job Description

Wellhart is seeking a Neurological Surgeon for a locum tenens position in Colorado. This 42-day assignment, starting May 5, 2025, requires coverage for 24-hour call shifts at a Trauma Hospital. The ideal candidate will be proficient in both cranial and spinal surgical procedures, including trauma cases. The schedule includes specific date ranges in May, November, and December, with ongoing opportunities into 2026. This role offers the chance to work in a hospital setting utilizing Epic EMR, with local surgeons available for patient follow-up. The position may also extend beyond the initial assignment.

Schedule: 24-hour call shifts (7a-7a), 7 shifts per month


Job Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Provide 24-hour on-call neurosurgical coverage
  • Perform cranial and spinal surgical procedures, including trauma cases
  • Manage both emergency and scheduled neurosurgical patients
  • Collaborate with trauma team and other healthcare professionals
  • Utilize Epic EMR for patient documentation
  • Conduct patient evaluations in the emergency room and inpatient settings
  • Develop and implement treatment plans for neurosurgical patients
  • Ensure high-quality patient care and safety
  • Participate in handoffs to local surgeons for patient follow-up
  • Adhere to hospital protocols and guidelines


Additional Information:


  • Colorado medical license required
  • Experience in Trauma Centers preferred
  • Proficiency in both cranial and spinal neurosurgical procedures essential
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced trauma environment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility to cover varying schedules, including holidays
