Job Description

 We are seeking a licensed Medical Physicist with a PhD for a 156-day locum tenens assignment at a healthcare facility in Mississippi. Starting 06/30/2025, this role requires expertise in various radiation therapy equipment and quality assurance procedures. The physicist will work approximately 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 7:30am to 4pm. Key responsibilities include managing quality assurance for linear accelerators, treatment planning systems, and imaging equipment; overseeing radiation safety; and ensuring compliance with national standards. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work in a comprehensive radiation oncology environment using the CPRS system, with potential for extension.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4pm (approximately 20 hours per week)


Responsibilities and Duties:

• Perform quality assurance on Varian Trilogy and IX linear accelerators

• Manage Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) systems, including Cone Beam CT

• Oversee ARIA record & verify system for various treatment modalities

• Conduct IMRT QA using MapCheck I/II

• Manage CT simulator and superficial X-ray machine quality assurance

• Provide acceptance testing and commissioning for new equipment

• Prepare quarterly QA reports for committees and attend radiation safety meetings

• Track and evaluate equipment-related quality assurance data

• Conduct shielding surveys and maintain radioactive source licenses

• Develop and review QMP policies and procedures for radiation therapy equipment

• Oversee technical activities of physicists, dosimetrists, and other staff members

• Implement new techniques and procedures as needed

• Develop continuous quality improvement policies

• Report adverse events and update facility profile data

• Coordinate submission of incident reports to RIRAS

• Provide consultation to radiation oncologists and technical staff

• Perform and review MU calculations and treatment plans

• Conduct weekly and final chart reviews for all patients under radiation treatment

• Ensure compliance with VA and national radiation safety standards


Additional Information:

• Experience with Varian linear accelerators and ARIA system is essential

• Familiarity with various treatment modalities including SRS, SBRT, and IMRT/VMAT

• Strong background in radiation protection and safety procedures

• Excellent communication and leadership skills for interdisciplinary collaboration

• Flexibility to adapt to evolving technologies and procedures in radiation oncology
